Jozani Forest is part of the Jozani Chwaka National Park, and is the last remaining area of original ancient forest left on Zanzibar. The area was given protection as a nature reserve in the 1960s , and with an area of 25.12 km2 Jozani Forest not only represents the original nature of the island, it is also home to the rare red colobus monkey, that can only be seen in West Africa and Zanzibar.
Many wild monkeys can be seen in Jozani Forest in their natural habitat, the best way of seeing them is by keeping a careful watch on the treetops, as this is where the different species of monkey spend their time.
