Lying in the south western part of Madagascar, this national park protects 815km2 of a spectacular mountain range, where wind and water have eroded the beautifully coloured sandstone rocks into a series of unusual rocky outcrops, jagged peaksand impressive canyons, surrounded by extensive grassy plains.
Isalo is the country’s most visited national park. It is easily accessible, good asphalt roads run through the park, and the climate here is dry and tropical. The park has many small streams , with luxurious green plantlike growing around them, including palms and many other unusual plants. There are also a number of waterfalls and natural pools which are safe to take a cooling dip in.
The park is also the most country’s most rich in animal life, kata lemurs, brown lemurs and sifaka lemurs are commonly seen, while there also a total of 14 species of nocturnal lemurs. 50 species of bird live in the park, as do many species of lizard, snakes and frogs. Around 500 species of plant grow in the park.
