Speke Bay Lodge

Speke Bay Lodge in Tanzania is situated in a savannah adjacent to Lake Victoria’s south eastern shores on a bay which is part of the Speke Gulf. It is named after John Hanning Speke, who in 1858 discovered that Lake Victoria was the source of the Nile. Since the lodge is outside, but close to the Serengeti National Park, it is the ideal place to start or end your safari, or relax during your travels.

The lodge has 20 guest rooms. There are 8 climate friendly, thatched bungalows built in the style of the local Sukuma tribe, built next to lake  Victoria. The bungalows each have their own veranda Bathrooms are furnished with a bathroom with a shower and toilet. There is also a tented camp with 12 tents, each covered by a thatched roof, which also creates a private and shady sitting area. The tents are fully furnished and contain two beds; hot showers and toilets are close-by.

From the lodge it is possible to take a canoe tour with local fishermen to their village of Mwaburungu, or take a mountain bike trip into the heart of Sukumaland. From the lake shore it is possible to fish for tilapia and a number of other species of fish. If you enjoy bird watching, over 250 spices of bush, swamp and water bird live on the lodge’s 100 ha of savannah.

The Lodge is 15 km from Serengeti National Park and 125 km north of the town of Mwanza.
