Serena Mountain Lodge is a tree-top level hotel, raised above ground level on piles. It lies at an altitude of 2194 meters on the lower, forested, south western slopes of Kenya’s highest mountain Mt. Kenya (5199 m) in Mount Kenya National Park. On a clear day there are views of the sun glowing on the snow-clad mountain peaks.
From the lodge’s viewing terrace there is an open view of a forest clearing, with a waterhole and a salt lick which often attracts both elephants and buffalo. An underground hide close to the waterhole is connected to the lodge by a tunnel. After dark the waterhole is illuminated, allowing guests to watch the forest’s nocturnal animals.
The tree top lodge has 41 cabin style rooms with Kikuyo inspired furnishings. The rooms are equipped with a luxurious bathroom and their own terrace, offering a view of the waterhole and the surrounding forest. The altitude here means that the evenings and nights are rather cool, but you can simply sit near the bar’s open fireplace to warm up .
The lodge offers many activities in the 490 square kilometers of the national park, such as guided forest walks, tours in the high lying heathlands, trout fishing in the fast flowing mountain streams, climbing trips and hiking in the mountains. The lodge also offers massages.
The lodge lies in the Nyeri district, 193 km/2-3 hours driving from Nairobi. The distance to Nyeri is 40 km/1 hour.
