Nxai Pan Camp

Nxai Pan Camp opened in 2009 and today it is the only camp in Nxai Pan National Park that is open all year round. It lies facing to the east, with a view over the open grass covered plains that today cover the fossil lake floor or salt pan, from which it gets its name. This area was once covered by a huge prehistoric lake that once spread over central Botswana.

It is an outstanding safari destination, where the nutritious juicy grasses attract a large number of animals during their migration during the months of November to April. In particular large herds of zebra, as well as springbok, elephants and a number of other species can be seen here. These herbivores in turn attract hungry predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas and even cheetahs which are all constantly looking for suitable prey amongst the grazing mammals. Around the water hole next to the camp you can plenty of mammals and birds all year round.

The camps 8 light and airy rooms can accommodate a maximum of 18 guests. The camp buildings are all thatched and constructed from materials that are designed to cope with the large swings in temperature that can be experienced in this district.

Activities offer by the camp include game drives and walking safaris. It is possible to organise excursions to, for example, the gigantic Baines Baobabs, which were immortalised by the Victorian artist Thomas Baines, who painted the trees in 1861.
