Mahé Island

Around 90% of the country’s 100,000 inhabitants live on Mahé, which at 157km2 is the largest island in the country, which has a total land area of only 459 km2.

Because the island of the Seychelles are so isolated from the rest of the world, they are home to many unusual species of plants and animals  that are found nowhere else on earth. Amounts the most spectacular of these are the huge Coco de Mer coconuts and the gigantic Aldabra tortoise.

Mahé is where you will find most of the islands hotels, there is also a 9 hole golf course, a natural history museum and a fine botanical garden. The Morne Seychelles National Park is the perfect place for a walking tour, it covers 20% of the island and includes a beautiful, lush tropical forest and the highest point on the island, which  905m above sea level .
