Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

The Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge lies on the highest point on the eastern edge of the Ngorongoro crater. This gives the lodge an outstanding view over the enormous 260km2 cauldron shaped crater (a caldera). This panoramic view is at its absolute best at sunset. The drive out to this lodge is longer than that to the other lodges in the area, but the beautiful tour halfway round the carter is absolutely worth the effort! The property is perfect for game drives as the lodge has its “own” road up and down the slopes of the crater.

The style of this attractive lodge is themed on traditional East African culture, with circular buildings and conical roofs, and colourful Masai style furnishings and decorations.

The lodge’s restaurant is built with glass walls from the floor to the ceiling, that give guests a panoramic view of the crater, as does the colourful and aptly named Crater View Bar.

From the main building you can walk along stone paved paths out past the swimming pool, a rare luxury in these parts, and then out to the rooms which stretch out on both sides from here. The lodge has accommodation for up to 186 guests in 97 very spacious rooms and suites, all with their own bathroom and balcony. Because of the lodge’s altitude, all rooms are heated during the cool nights.

The lodge is situated on the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, a 4 hour/170km drive from Arusha, or a 40 mins flight plus transfer time.
